In The Coromandel the heavens appear very close to earth because our small villages shed very little light on the dark night sky.

Galaxies of stars, far-off planets, passing satellites and shooting stars are often clearly visible for those who stay up to watch the night show unfold.

Our night sky has a unique connection to both Māori and European history – as the first landing point for the earliest Māori navigators and the site of Cook’s observation of the Transit of Mercury.
